Voting Green Tomorrow Could Make a Difference

A quick post from me on the local elections tomorrow in Camden.

I intended to write a more lengthy article looking at the various local policies and candidates in the Holborn & Covent Garden, Bloomsbury, and King’s Cross Wards, but I unfortunately ran out of time.

However, I am not sure the policies of the local parties are even relevant. What is more important is to have councillors who actually represent local concerns, and who act with honesty and integrity.

With the loss of Sue Vincent in the local Labour Party, and the ‘chicken run’ of Richard Olszewski to Holborn and Covent Garden, another win for Labour in these areas would consolidate a severe lack of representation in the Council.

These elections, the Greens are actively contesting the Holborn and Covent Garden and Bloomsbury Wards. Sue Vincent has ‘endorsed’ the local party and I have spoken to one candidate who is very interested and concerned about local issues.

The polling in these areas shows quite a tight race between the Greens and Labour. Even a handful of votes could make a difference.

As such I would recommend putting in a vote for your local Green candidates tomorrow. Even gaining one or two Green (or any non-Labour) councillors in these wards would make an enormous difference to local decision-making and representation in the area.

As a disclaimer, I have no affiliation with or even support the Green Party (or any party) nationally or locally. Nor do I even know what the policies are of the local (or national) parties are. My only concern is that of proper democratic representation in the local council, to improve the quality of life for residents in the area. The only way that this can realistically be achieved is by a change in the power balance at the council. And voting Green tomorrow could make this possible.

  1. But, Owen, why does one have to vote for a party? I have voted for 3 people of different parties whom I feel would best address local concerns and issues. I fear that Labour will nonetheless get in by default.

    1. sorry should have made it clearer – simply because they have the best chances! The other parties are far behind labour and greens in the polls. Latest polling suggests 1 green councillor and 2 labour for each southern ward
